Gibran plants cacao seedlings in Mansel, 2,000 hectares restored

The 2026 program will assign 1,800 hectares to farmers and 200 hectares to cooperatives, while 800 hectares remain conservation areas.

Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka planted superior cacao seedlings on PT Ebier Suth Cokran land in Ransiki District, Manokwari Selatan Regency, Papua Barat, on Saturday (20/6) as part of efforts to accelerate the 2026 cacao plantation rehabilitation program. After the planting, he inspected Mansel Chocolate Factory, which processes cacao beans into finished products for export markets. The program covers 2,000 hectares of land: 1,800 hectares managed by Manokwari Selatan cacao farmers and 200 hectares by Koperasi Ebier Suth Cokran. The scheme uses sustainable agroforestry, consisting of 1,200 hectares of cacao plantations and 800 hectares of conservation areas. The seedlings planted included Trinitario clones CKR-40, CKR-13, CKR-14, and CKR-12. About 88-90 percent of the company's workforce comes from indigenous Papuan communities.
