Singapore man got 6 months’ jail after knife threat over straw dispute

A 55-year-old man in Singapore was sentenced to six months and seven days in jail after threatening a convenience store manager with two knives during an argument over a straw. Court records showed Wu Zhijian bought bread and a canned drink at a shop in Block 78 Redhill Lane on May 1 and argued with the manager after being refused a straw. He left, then came back minutes later carrying two knives, threatened the manager and later went home. Police arrested him at his apartment in the same block later that afternoon. The judge cited a criminal record dating to 1992 and found that Wu committed the offense while on conditional parole from Feb. 11 to May 9, leading to the extra seven days.
