Iran hits Kuwait and Bahrain after 7th night of US strikes

Why it matters: Fighting has again choked traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, pushing oil to about $85 a barrel.

Iran widened its retaliation on July 17, striking targets in Kuwait and Bahrain and claiming an attack near the al-Tanf area in Syria after the United States completed a seventh straight night of strikes on Iran. US Central Command said it hit surveillance sites, logistics infrastructure, underground weapons storage and maritime capabilities. Iranian media reported deaths and damage to bridges, a train station and an airport in southern Iran. Kuwait said missiles and drones wounded several soldiers and damaged military facilities along with a power and water desalination station. Bahrain said it intercepted multiple aerial attacks, while explosions were also reported in Doha and Iran said it hit a US radar site in Oman.
