Mentan offers free seedlings and land prep for pesantren
The aid for pesantren is included in a 870,000-hectare smallholder plantation program backed by about Rp9,95 trillion.
Minister of Agriculture Andi Amran Sulaiman offered free plantation crop seedlings, no-cost land preparation and cultivation support for pondok pesantren that have productive land. He made the offer at the VIII Indonesian Ulema Congress held by Majelis Ulama Indonesia in Jakarta on Sunday, 26 July 2026. Pesantren interested in the program are asked to submit requests through local agriculture offices. Crops mentioned include sugar cane, cocoa, coconut, cashew and coffee. According to Amran, the scheme is intended to strengthen food security while also opening economic activities for santri and communities around them. The program is part of the development of about 870,000 hectares of strategic plantation commodities, with an estimated budget of about Rp9,95 trillion for improved seedlings and smallholder plantation development.
