Polda Metro Jaya arrests 8 in digital propaganda ring
Police seized Rp220 million, are tracing the main client, and are probing whether project funds came from state money.
Polda Metro Jaya arrested eight suspects in a digital propaganda ring that produced and spread hoaxes, defamation and provocation on social media. Director of General Criminal Investigation at Polda Metro Jaya Kombes Iman Imanuddin said the network had operated since 2024 and used X, Threads, Instagram and Facebook. Police said the suspects were split into five roles, from recruiter and financier to content creator, distributor, content booster and blasting. Investigators seized 11 cellphones, two laptops, one iPad, two flash drives and Rp220 million in cash, which was believed to be part of project payments. Six suspects are being held at the Rutan Polda Metro Jaya, while investigators continue to search for the main client and examine whether the project funds came from state finances.
