Qatar hold Swiss 1-1 on Khoukhi's 94th-minute goal

The result leaves every team in Group B on one point after Canada also drew 1-1 with Bosnia-Herzegovina.

Qatar snatched a point from Switzerland after drawing 1-1 in the opening match of Group B at the 2026 World Cup in the San Francisco Bay Area, United States, on Saturday morning WIB. Switzerland went ahead through a Breel Embolo penalty in the 13th minute after goalkeeper Mahmud Abunada fouled Remo Freuler in the area. Murat Yakin's side then controlled the match and took 26 shots, but could not add a second goal. With victory for Switzerland within reach, Qatar captain Boualem Khoukhi equalized in the 94th minute with a header at the far post. The result gave Qatar their first point in World Cup history and immediately tightened the Group B race.
