Spain wildfire kills 12 in Andalusia tourist area as 19 remain missing

A fast-moving wildfire in Andalusia killed at least 12 people in and around Los Gallardos and Bedar in southern Spain, making it one of the country’s deadliest blazes in years. Regional officials said 19 people were still missing as hundreds of firefighters, backed by Spain’s Military Emergency Unit, worked to contain the fire. Authorities said many victims appeared to be foreign nationals; four people believed to be British died in a right-hand-drive car, while others were found after trying to escape on foot. Several more people were hospitalized with burns or smoke inhalation. Spain has been enduring extreme heat, and officials are investigating whether a fallen power line ignited dry scrubland.
