US bombs Sirik Port, Iran retaliates in Kuwait, Bahrain

The clashes widened to bases and Gulf territory, while one missile was also reported to hit the Komala headquarters in Erbil, Iraq.

The United States carried out an airstrike on Sirik Port in southern Iran on July 18, after two of its military personnel were killed in an Iranian attack in Jordan and one other was reported missing. According to CENTCOM, the strike, which began around 22:00 local time, aimed to weaken Iran's ability to threaten commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz and to punish the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. Several hours later, Iran launched retaliatory attacks on US military facilities in Kuwait and Bahrain. Kuwait's military said air defense systems intercepted drones, while Bahrain sounded air raid sirens. Separate reports also said a missile struck the headquarters of the Iranian Kurdish opposition group Komala in Erbil, Iraq.
