US continues strikes on Iranian military targets as Tehran threatens oil blockade

The warning widened to the Strait of Hormuz after Iran said it could shut West Asian oil exports if its infrastructure comes under attack.

The United States military carried out fresh strikes on Iranian military targets on Wednesday (22/7) local time, according to U.S. Central Command, or CENTCOM. The airstrikes began at 5:30 p.m. Eastern Time, equivalent to Thursday (23/7) at 4:30 a.m. WIB. CENTCOM said the operation would continue to weaken Iran's ability to threaten civilian mariners and commercial ships in the region. Hours earlier, U.S. President Donald Trump threatened to destroy one bridge or power plant in Iran each time Tehran fired on ships in the Strait of Hormuz. In response, Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters warned that Iran could block all oil exports from West Asia and target oil, gas, electricity and economic infrastructure in the Middle East if the United States attacks Iranian infrastructure.
