Indonesia mourns the death of former Qatar Emir Sheikh Hamad
Qatar has declared four days of mourning, while Sheikh Tamim received condolences on July 13-15.
The Indonesian government conveyed condolences over the death of former Qatar Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani at age 74. The message of sympathy was delivered by the Foreign Ministry to Qatar Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Al Thani family, the government, and the people of Qatar. News of Sheikh Hamad's death was confirmed by Amiri Diwan on Sunday. Qatar then declared a four-day national mourning period. Sheikh Hamad led Qatar from 1995-2013 before handing power to his son, Sheikh Tamim. He was widely regarded as a key figure in Qatar's modern transformation and remained influential after stepping down. His body was scheduled to be buried in Lusail on Sunday after the maghrib prayer local time.
