A Russian frigate fired warning shots near a UK-registered yacht in the English Channel on Tuesday after the vessels came into close contact in fog, prompting a British investigation. The incident involved the Admiral Grigorovich between the Isle of Wight and Normandy shortly before midday. BBC News reported the motor-less yacht had drifted toward the warship after setting off from the UK. Russia's Defence Ministry said the yacht made a "dangerous approach" and that sailors fired rifles into its path after failed radio calls and warning flares. A UK government source told the BBC a couple in their 60s were aboard. No injuries or damage were reported. The British Ministry of Defence said the episode took place outside UK territorial waters.
