2026 World Cup final: Spain and Argentina tied 0-0, Enzo sent off
Argentina must play extra time with 10 men after Enzo Fernandez received a second yellow card in injury time.
The 2026 World Cup final between Spain and Argentina was still tied 0-0 when regulation ended at New York Stadium, United States, on Monday. The situation changed in injury time when Argentina midfielder Enzo Fernandez received a second yellow card after a foul on Pau Cubarsi, sending his team into extra time with 10 players. Spain controlled much of the match and threatened several times through Lamine Yamal, Alejandro Baena, Ferran Torres, Pedri and Pau Cubarsi, but Emiliano Martinez repeatedly denied the chances. Argentina also pressed through combinations involving Lionel Messi and Nico Gonzalez, but could not score. In the first half, Lisandro Martinez also had to leave because of injury and was replaced by Nicolas Otamendi.
