Trump opens overseas Patriot missile production for Ukraine
What's new: The move could speed air defense supplies for Kyiv as Russian missile attacks continue into the war's fifth year.
President Donald Trump said the United States will let Patriot air defense missiles be produced overseas for Ukraine, handing Kyiv a long-sought way to expand access to one of its most needed weapons systems. Trump disclosed the plan during a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy at the NATO summit in Turkey, saying the U.S. would grant the rights and provide the know-how to make the systems abroad. Zelenskyy has pushed for more Patriots as Ukraine struggles to defend against Russian missile strikes. The systems are costly, in short supply and slow to build, making licensed production a potentially important shift in how Ukraine could replenish air defenses.
